LEGISLATIVE REPORT
February 1999

OVERVIEW

The first session of the 106th Congress convened on January 6, 1999. With the impeachment trial over members of Congress will begin to get down to work on various legislative issues. Some of these issues are: the FY 2000 federal budget resolution, tax cuts, increased spending for education and defense, preserving Social Security and managed care. Information on how to contact members of Congress and the President is provided at the end of this report. Issues that necessitate specific action are indicated below. Members of the American Pediatric Society, Society for Pediatric Research and the Association of Medical School Pediatric Department Chairs are urged to make their voices heard during this session of Congress.
