2013 Norman J. Siegel New Member Outstanding Science Awardee Announced

Renee R. Jenkins, MD, FAAPThe American Pediatric Society is pleased to announce Dr. Sten H. Vermund as the recipient of the 2013 Norman J. Siegel New Member Outstanding Science Award. This award is bestowed on a newly elected APS Member to acknowledge his/her outstanding contributions to science.

Sten H. Vermund, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Pediatrics and Amos Christie Chair in Global Health, Director, Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health, at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN.

2013 Howland Medal Awardee Announced

The American Pediatric Society is pleased to announce Dr. Elizabeth R. McAnarney as the 2013 APS Howland Medal Awardee.

Dr. Elizabeth R. McAnarney Elizabeth R. McAnarney, M.D., is Professor of Pediatrics, and Chair Emerita of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Her primary academic focus is the creation of substantive clinical research examining whether the stage/age of adolescence is associated with poor health outcome for the adolescent and in the case of adolescent pregnancy, for the adolescent mother and her child. She has been involved in all aspects of academic pediatrics at the University of Rochester and has guided generations of Rochester trainees and faculty. Dr. McAnarney was born in New York City and took her first train ride at two weeks of age from New York to the family home in Watkins Glen, New York and lived there until leaving for college.

2013 Joseph W. St. Geme, Jr. Leadership Award Recipient Announced

Renee R. Jenkins, MD, FAAPThe Federation of Pediatric Organizations is delighted to announce Renee R. Jenkins, MD, FAAP, as the recipient of the 2013 Joseph W. St. Geme, Jr. Leadership Award. Dr. Jenkins will receive this award on Saturday, May 4, during the Opening Session of the 2013 Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting in Washington, DC.

APS Program Day at 2013 PAS

Based on our successful programs in Vancouver, Denver and Boston, an APS Program Day has once again been organized within the 2013 PAS Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, for Sunday, May 5.

The day will focus on cutting edge research and will honor new and senior members who have made significant contributions to the field of academic pediatrics. This year will be a special celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the APS. APS members are invited to join us for this day-long celebration of the traditions and the future of the American Pediatric Society.

Best Paper Travel Award for Young Investigators

The International Pediatric Research Foundation invites nominations for a Best Paper Travel Award for papers published in the journal Pediatric Research within the last calendar year. The award will support two young investigators' participation in an upcoming annual PAS or ESPR meeting with a reimbursable amount of up to $2,500 for travel-related expenses for the meeting.

The deadline for nominations is April 1, 2013.
